I believe most of us grew up watching and adoring the 1980s, Anne of Green Gables television series. I know for me, it was one my most adored movies of my entire childhood. I owned it on VHS and thanks to my Canadian mother in law, I now own the movies on DVD. If you're unfamiliar with these lovely movies (I say movies with an "s" because there are three - Anne of Green Gables, Anne of Green Gables - the Sequel (or Anne of Avonlea), and Anne of Green Gables - The Continuing Story. These movies are available in our bookstore under "Book Club Selections" and then "DVDs". Here is a trailer for the first movie:
Anne of Green Gables (1985):
So many people have seen those awesome made for TV movies, but did you also know there is another version? Yep, the first movie made about the red haired Anne Shirley was in 1934, fifty years before the one we all know and adore. You can read more about this version on the IMDb (Anne of Green Gables - 1934). If you are a fan of old, black and white movies like I am, I would highly recommend watching this version too. :o) And guess what's even better? You can watch the movie for free on Youtube. I'm not entirely sure of the legality but it's available at least for now. The movie is 78 minutes long and is broken up into 11 episodes on Youtube. I am embedding the first video below and link the other parts after it. Make yourself a raspberry cordial and enjoy!

ReplyDelete@Colleen: Me too! :o) I love how this book selection brings us all back to our childhood a little. How precious. I'm so glad Dani picked it. :o)
ReplyDeleteI am a huge fan of L.M. Montgomery and the craze started with the movies. :o) I watched all of the "Road to Avonlea" shows too with Sarah Polley... did you see those too?
ReplyDeleteI was really excited to see the old, old version on youtube when I was looking around. I love old black and white movies and finding the whole thing on there was great! Each "episode" or part is about 8 minutes long so you can watch the whole thing over a period of time... just for fun. :o)
I think I am in heaven....
ReplyDeleteOk, the official HD clip just had me in tears! Such good memories of watching A of GG with my mom and little brother (yes, we forced him - maybe that's why he is so messed up today!) I feel so weepy this morning - Kim this is wonderful!
