Good Eggs: Phoebe Potts on The Happiness Project

Read this funny and quirky interview between Phoebe Potts and Gretchen Rubin, author of The Happiness Project.  Find it here on The Happiness Project website:
Speaking of The Happiness Project, have any of you out there read the book? I read it a year or two ago and have varied personal opinions of it.  If you've read it, what are your thoughts?

  1. I haven't read it but I read a little about it. I think it is hard for me, being someone who is happy but for one big thing, to see that she's got that thing and is still not happy.
Part of me feels like it's complaining about the food at a free lunch.
    Hm. Maybe not.
I am all about working on optimism and friendliness to improve happiness. If a dirty dish pile in the sink is making me depressed, although doing it isn't fun, the clean, empty sink puts me in a better mood.
Is it that sort of thing?

  2. I read it twice a couple of years ago. I liked it and didn't for two reasons.

#1 - I liked that it provided a very organized way to analyze and keep track of your progress. However, for the person who is not so good at keeping record of stuff and who also stresses at the task, it was not making me happy.

#2 - I had a hard time with the author seemingly (I know it isn't the case) having it all. A great job, a beautiful Manhattan apartment, financial security, and a family. No death, destruction, and disease. What do you do then?
