Ah... I love those choices. Return to Me is one of my favorites but my husband says it's the saddest movie ever (because of the beginning). I don't think he's ever watched the whole thing through. :o)
Here are some of mine from the musical genre:
Flower Drum Song Funny Girl An American in Paris
And others:
Stranger than Fiction Dan in Real Life Away We Go (<--MENTS on that one) Run, Fat Boy, Run :o)
I have hugely different levels of "romance" movies that I love.
Somewhere in Time (Jane Seymour and Christopher Reeve) Best Years of Our Lives (Myrna Loy and William Powell + 2 other couples) LA Story (Steve Martin getting love advice from a road sign) Moulin Rouge (Nicole Kidman and Ewan MacGregor) The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet) The Fountain (Hugh and Kate) Stardust (Claire Danes) To Have and Have Not (Bogart/Bacall's 1st movie together) A Portrait of Jenny (similar to Somewhere in Time)
I love, love, love Pride and Prejudice, and Persuasion. But let's not forget The Notebook. Sappy, but so romantic. Sigh. Or what about Ethan Frome? Too many to choose from!!!
Sabrina, Emma, Sense & Sensibility, Bull Durham, When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle, Bridget Jones' Diary, Sixteen Candles, Gone With the Wind to name a few :)
One movie to avoid - Did You Hear About the Morgans with Sarah Jessica Parker. A pretty funny comedy but it perpetuates the myth that if you adopt, you'll get pregnant (sorry for the spoiler alert but I'm trying to save you from the rush of rage I felt - so bad, my DH was grateful he had the remote in hand and not me)
So that is 2 movies SJP was in that perpetuated that! The other one was Sex in The City 2. I felt kinship with the IF couple who adopted. And suddenly she gets pg and explains it like: "You know how some people get pg right after they adopt??" I saw it in the theater with friends and I just went cold and hated the entire show since. They are so big about busting myths about womanhood and sexuality. It ticks me off that they'd be so ignorant. (rant over)
Oh, and Painted Veil is with Naomi Watts, not Keira Knightley. :) Much better actress IMO.
Love "Dirty Dancing!" Had a poster of him on my wall in my youth, saw the movie many times and even had a T-shirt. Those were the days... Lately I also love "Confessions of a Shopaholic" and "Bridget Jones' Diary". Yes and I am a sucker for the period romance, having done English III at vasity, love Austen too. And how cool was "Marley and Me" about the dog - and her holding the dog when she lost the baby.
There are a lot to pick from!!! Hmm, how about I narrow it down to a short list of favorites..
ReplyDeleteCasablanca
Sabrina

I second Funny Girl too.
I love big, epic stories.
Dirty Dancing is a big fave of mine. But my all time fave is P.S. I love you, I cry EVERY time!!! Oh and anything Jane Austen.
ReplyDeleteAlso Roman Holiday (top picture) is great.
ReplyDeleteAnother good one is The Painted Veil with Keira Knightley and I think Ed Norton.
After watching that clip, I think there are a lot of Austen or Bronte period movies I need to catch up on!! :)

ReplyDelete*sigh*... I wish all of life were like the movies...
ReplyDeleteI love all these selections! I'm going to add a few that I haven't seen on here to my Netflix queue. :o)
Sabrina, Emma, Sense & Sensibility, Bull Durham, When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle, Bridget Jones' Diary, Sixteen Candles, Gone With the Wind to name a few :)
ReplyDeleteThese are all good. I am going to copy Kim and add to my netflix list :)

That is pretty interesting considering SJP has experienced IF and used a surrogate for her twins. Ughhh!
