February Book Suggestions Due Today!

Hi :o)

Just a reminder that any February book suggestions are due by the end of the day today.

Beginning Sunday morning, a survey will be posted right onto the site that will allow you to make your choice. You may choose as many as you are interested in, but the one with the most votes wins. If we don't pick your first choice, I hope you will stick with us because there will be many more books to come!

I can't wait to see what we pick! The winner of the book selection will be announced Tuesday, February 1st.

Help Wanted: Moderators, anyone? :o)

Hello again to all my book club gals!

All of the book suggestions you've made are FANTASTIC.  We have two more days to continue with suggestions before the cut off and survey.  I can't wait to see what we choose for this month!

UPDATE 1/30:  Thank you for your offers to help!  We have the moderators we need to get us started at this time, but will always be looking for contributors.  I'll post again when we have some more specific needs.  Thank you!

When our book club was merely an idea on Inspire, a few of you wonderful ladies mentioned wanting to help.  Now, I'm usually the one to say, "That's okay. I can do it", but I'm trying my best to ask for and accept help when it is offered.  So, there are a few tasks and jobs concerning our club that could use a helping hand.

As of now, we have one moderator (me) and lots of members (you).  I am able to add others as moderators as well.  A moderator may have the ability to write new posts, alter the design of our site, authorize comments, etc.  Helpful moderator skills include:
  1. Familiarity working with Blogger.
  2. Attention to detail (spelling, grammar, etc.).
  3. Know some html (not required).
  4. Understand how to write in rich text, upload photos, etc.
  5. Be creative and want to share ideas.
A moderator's job might include these tasks:
  1. Editing, adding, and modifying posts.
  2. Authorizing and monitoring comments (remove spam and any "unsavory" comments).
Another potential job would be as a contributor.  A contributor would be a creative person who has great ideas for making our book club even more amazing.  This person would be writing weekly or monthly posts for the group.  Weekly/monthly posts may include but are not limited to:
  1. Book discussions.
  2. Creating contests and give aways.
  3. Writing an article about our book or a theme/topic around it (for example: a recipe that is themed after our book selection; an article or poem related to the month's topic; personal thoughts related to the group; poem or other inspiration; humor, etc.)
So...

Do any of you feel up to the task?  So far, I've been having SO much fun putting this site together.

If you feel as though you have some of the necessary skills, please comment below.  Let me know what kind of job you'd be interested in and what ideas you might have.  ALL help is appreciated, but too many "hands in the pot" could make things really confusing... so we're just looking for 1-3 people for now.  Thank you for your willingness to share your creativity!

February Book Suggestions - Due January 29th!

Hello, lovely friends!

So, February is quickly coming and we need to pick a book selection for this month.  Since we're short on time, I thought we could use this thread to make some book suggestions.  We'll take all suggestions placed in the comments below up until Saturday, midnight EST.  At that time, I will combine suggestions in a survey format and everyone can vote!  :o)

Here are some thoughts about our first book:
  • IF related or not?
  • Positive in nature?
  • Fiction or non fiction?
Also, there are many books out there, especially the bestsellers that have book club guides online or in the back of the book itself.  Since we are new... something like that would be great.

Please leave your book suggestions or any other ideas about this month's selection in the comments!  Don't be a stranger.

Welcome!

Dear New Friends,

Welcome to The Ladies in Waiting Book Club!  My name is Kim (A.K.A. hannahgrace :o) and at this time I am the moderator for the group.

For information about the origin and mission of our group, please visit the "About Us" page under the header.

In the next few days, as our members begin to join us, I will be posting several opportunities for feedback as we decide on the format and guidelines for our group.  This website is in weblog format and you may post your feedback as a comment.

There are many ways you can get the latest information and posts from our book club.  At this time, we do not have an email sign up feature, so you can use the following features to make sure you stay up to date:
  1. Facebook:  "Like" us on Facebook. :o)  If you are a frequent Facebook user, this is probably the best way to keep track of posts.  By "liking" us, you will receive regular updates in your news feed.
  2. Goodreads:  Whether you are a casual reader or a genuine bibliophile, I highly recommend joining Goodreads.  Through the Goodreads site you can make and add friends, recommend books, compare what others are reading, keep track of what you've read and would like to read, and visit our book club.
  3. Google Friend Connect:  On the left side margin our our site, you will see a the Google Friend Connect link.  By following us this way, you will automatically receive updates in your Google Reader account.
  4. RSS Feed:  On the right side margin of our site, you will see a header titled "Subscribe to RSS".  This is a really great way of seeing the latest posts on our site if you regularly us an RSS reader such as Bloglines or Google Reader.  My personal favorite is Google Reader (I love Google products).  For those of you who are unfamiliar with this type of service, a blog reader or RSS reader is a great platform for subscribing to news feed and blogs.  When you "subscribe", your reader will allow you to collect, manage and share news from the blogs or news sites that you have subscribed to.
  5. Inspire Support Community:  If you are not already familiar, Inspire is a discussion board for those struggling with infertility.  I will not be regularly cluttering the discussion boards with news of our book club (except for a monthly update/invitation), but I highly recommend joining.  On Inspire, you can post whatever fertility related topic that is on your mind - ask questions, give and receive support, explore and compare treatments, etc.  Some days, this is my lifeline and my way of being in the world without feeling so alone.
Several updates will be posted tomorrow and for the rest of the week as we gather ourselves together.  Please check back soon!
